RealVR Project: Completion of Result 1 – Theoretical Methodology and Analysis for a Unified Real Estate VET Curriculum

Updated: Dec 17, 2024

We are proud to announce the completion of Result 1 of the RealVR project: “Theoretical Methodology and Analysis for Development of a Unified Real Estate VET Curriculum.” This milestone establishes a robust foundation for modernizing vocational education and training (VET) in the real estate sector, aligning it with emerging market needs and European Union standards.

Overview of Result 1

Result 1 combines a comprehensive analysis of VET curricula across partner countries with a forward-looking theoretical methodology. This dual approach ensures the development of a unified curriculum that meets current labor market demands while integrating innovative tools such as Virtual Reality (VR).

Key Findings from the Analysis

The analysis phase identified significant gaps and opportunities in existing VET frameworks across Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Italy, and Lithuania. It provides a clear roadmap to address these challenges:

  1. Core Competency Gaps

    • Digital Skills: Limited integration of tools like VR, PropTech, and data analytics into existing programs.

    • Sustainability Training: Insufficient focus on green building certifications and energy efficiency standards.

    • Cross-Border Competencies: Growing demand for multilingual skills and understanding global real estate markets.

    • Financial Literacy: Weaknesses in advanced financial modeling and investment analysis.

  2. Country-Specific Insights

    • Bulgaria: Strong alignment with EN 15733:2010 standards but a lack of advanced technological tools and green practices.

    • Greece: Focus on short-term rentals and taxation but minimal exposure to sustainability and digital tools.

    • Portugal: A strong apprenticeship model yet limited integration of VR and emerging PropTech solutions.

    • Italy: Regional disparities in training availability with uneven adoption of digital competencies.

    • Lithuania: A need for more multilingual training and digital upskilling.

Theoretical Methodology Highlights

Building on the analysis, the methodology proposes a structured framework to modernize VET curricula. Key elements include:

1. Alignment with EU Standards

The curriculum aligns with EN 15733:2010 standards, ensuring professional excellence in:

  • Legal frameworks and regulatory compliance

  • Property valuation and market analysis

  • Client service and ethical conduct

2. Integration of Future-Ready Skills

To address market gaps, the methodology incorporates:

  • Digital Transformation: Training in VR simulations, PropTech tools, and virtual tours.

  • Sustainability: Modules on energy efficiency, green certifications, and sustainable urban development.

  • Global Competence: Multilingual support and cross-border transaction skills for the globalized real estate market.

3. Innovative VR Solutions

The methodology lays the groundwork for VR-enhanced training modules, offering:

  • Immersive property inspections and valuations

  • Simulated client negotiations

  • Facility management practice in a virtual environment

These tools provide hands-on experience in a risk-free setting, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.

Proposed Unified Curriculum

The methodology introduces a 20-module framework designed to deliver a comprehensive and practical learning experience. Modules include:

  1. Foundations of Real Estate

  2. Legal Framework and Ethics

  3. Sustainability and Green Building Practices

  4. Digital Tools and PropTech Integration

  5. Financial Literacy and Investment Analysis

  6. International Real Estate Competencies

  7. Advanced VR and E-Learning Technologies

This curriculum ensures learners develop the skills, knowledge, and adaptability needed to thrive in a competitive, tech-driven industry.

Key Takeaways

The combined analysis and methodology provide a transformative approach to VET curricula, addressing critical gaps while preparing learners for the future of real estate:

  • Market-Driven Content: A curriculum that reflects the real estate sector's evolving demands.

  • Technology Integration: Enhanced learning through VR and PropTech tools.

  • Sustainability Focus: Equipping learners with skills to navigate the EU Green Deal requirements.

  • Global Mobility: Training aligned with EU standards and international market needs.

Next Steps

With Result 1 complete, the RealVR project will now focus on:

  1. Developing VR-based training modules.

  2. Piloting the unified curriculum with real estate learners and educators.

  3. Gathering feedback for further refinement and scalability.
